E25Bio, a Cambridge, Mass.-based provider of rapid, point-of-care, diagnostic technology, raised $2.3m in seed funding. Founded in 2018 by Jeff Takle, E25Bio is developing rapid diagnostic test technology for at-home-use that can detect dangerous infectious diseases such as the acute febrile illnesses in minutes instead of days. More

Spotawheel, a startup operating in Greece and Poland with a car dealership model quite similar to Carvana in the U.S., has picked up €5 million in new funding. The investment includes both equity and debt financing, since part of Spotawheel’s business includes purchasing used cars upfront. It brings  total raised by the Athens-headquartered startup to €8 million since launching in 2016. More

A software company that helps law practices run more efficiently may not be the flashiest business in town, but that’s not stopping some VCs from backing them with pretty high dollars. Hence, Canada-based Clio (which provides that type of software) announced this morning it has raised a massive $250 million Series D round from TCV and JMI Equity. More 

PerimeterX announced that it has upped its Series C financing round to $57 million with an additional $14 million from Deutsche Telecom Capital Partners (DTCP) and Salesforce Ventures. More 

Stevenage, U.K.-based Achilles Therapeutics said Tuesday that it had raised 100 million pounds – equal to about $120 million – in a Series B round, led by RA Capital Management. Founding investor Syncona participated, along with Forbion, Perceptive Advisors and Redmile Group. More

New Funds 

Accion, a Washington, D.C.-based financial inclusion focused nonprofit organization, expanded its seed-stage investment initiative Accion Venture Lab with the addition of $33M to its initial capital pool. More

Xiang He Capital, a China TMT focused venture capital firm, closed its second USD-denominated venture fund, at $425m. LP support came from existing and new investors from across the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, representing global consultants, leading university endowments, foundations, family offices, pensions, and fund-of-funds. More 

Exits 

Edtech company Chegg acquired online coding school Thinkful this week, its first startup purchase of 2019. The price of the acquisition is $80 million, with potential additional payments of up to $20 million, making it the company’s largest deal to date, per Chegg. More 

Microsoft didn’t have to go far for its latest acquisition. The Redmond, Wash.-based tech giant today announced that it acquired Movere, an 11-year-old Seattle-area cloud migration startup. Microsoft will use the deal to help customers move their existing applications and infrastructure to Azure. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. More 

Chapter 11 

A microbiome-testing company once valued at more than half a billion dollars has filed for bankruptcy. San Francisco-based uBiome said Wednesday that it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in order to smooth the process of selling off its business, products in development, technology and lab capabilities. More
